The Area

The Agenais region includes Pays de Serres (which means Eagle's talons) to the north of the Garonne and the Pays de Brulhois on the left bank.

The principal cities in the region are Toulouse and Bordeaux. The departments between these are Lot-et-Garonne & Tarn-et-Garonne. The major towns close to Prayssas include:

Agen: The County town of the Lot-et-Garonne which changed hands 11 times during the hundred years war and is well known for its plums (pruneaux). On the banks of the Garonne river it has a beautiful museum housed in four Renaissance houses.

Villeneuve-sur-Lot: A powerful bastide on the banks of the Lot river. Founded in 1264 it has preserved a large quantity of small streets and half-timbered buildings. Close by is a superb 18 hole golf course.


There are many Beaux Villages in the region including:

Moissac: On the banks of the Tarn river this bustling town with lively weekend markets, is famous for its Romanesque Abbey and Cloisters.

Penne d'Agenais: This medieval village is renowned for its many artists and craftsmen including potters, jewellers, weavers and many more.

Pujols: "village on a hilltop", the name aptly describes this pretty village which has been used as a fortification since Roman times. http://pujols.free.fr


Duras: 800 years of history. Home of the Côtes de Duras wines, with excellent varieties of Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cabernet-Franc, Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle. http://www.paysdeduras.com
